Bethel Christian Fellowship's Sunday morning meeting has moved several times over the past few years. Originally always held at the Bethel building in Church Street it was moved to Powers Hall Junior School in 1992 and then, in 2005, to Spring Lodge Community Centre in Chipping Hill for a few months. Since early 2006 it has been held at the John Bramston School in Spinks Lane, Witham. The Bethel building, whilst still in use by the church for a number of activities, no longer provides adequate accommodation for the present fellowship in terms of its size and number of children's groups meeting on Sunday mornings. The main area for new housing development in Witham is off Maltings Lane at the southern extremity of the town. The plans for that area include a neighbourhood centre which, in turn, includes a site of approximately half an acre for a place of worship and one, adjoining, for a community centre. Braintree District Council, in 2007, chose Bethel Christian Fellowship to occupy the place of worship site and erect a new building there and also to manage the community centre which is to be built by the Council. At present this project is still at an early stage. The Fellowship has formed a Buildings Team to progress the project and has also appointed an architect and solicitor to handle the professional work involved. Much work remains to be done to establish if a building of a satisfactory size and design can be accommodated on the site offered. There is also the challenge of raising the considerable amount of funding required to provide the new facility.
